A Rapidly Growing Population
The rapid growth of the SaveTheDPS initiative reflects a profound community-led transformation, as evidenced in the table below, our current enrollment of 150 students returning to a revitalized educational environment. A dedicated team of 9 teachers supports this enrollment and draws students from five key villages, with Egbelu Nguru contributing the largest share of 115 pupils. The campaign's momentum is further validated by the successful execution of key events like the DPS Children's Day on May 28, 2026 (second edition), the DPS Spelling B competition (2025 edition), and ongoing preparations for future milestones such as the Pupils' Excursion to Imo International Airport and Petros Farm (to ignite the entrepreneurial spark in them).
Together, these figures and active project statuses demonstrate a unified effort to restore institutional sustainability and provide high-quality educational infrastructure for the next generation.
Our Milestones
In a profound gesture of enduring legacy and community transformation, the reconstruction of this classroom block stands as a lasting tribute to the memory of the Late Betty Moscrip at Development Primary School in Egbelu Nguru. For years, dilapidated and unsafe learning structures threatened the educational progress and well-being of young pupils. This complete reconstruction directly addresses a critical core infrastructure need, replacing decaying walls and roofing with a modern, fully finished classroom building officially designated as the Betty Moscrip Memorial Block that restores safety, dignity, and an inspiring environment for generations of learners to come
Rotary Club Sanitation Initiative at DPS
In a powerful demonstration of community partnership and health advocacy, the Rotary Club has generously donated a modern 6-unit toilet facility to Development Primary School in Egbelu Nguru. For years, inadequate and dilapidated sanitation facilities compromised pupil health, safety, and daily school attendance. This vital intervention directly addresses a critical core hygiene infrastructure need, replacing unsafe conditions with clean, private, and durable water and sanitation facilities that restore health, dignity, and proper sanitation standards to the learning environment
₦800,000 School Desks
In a powerful demonstration of global solidarity, Terry and Dr. Stewart of the Rotary Club of Greeley Centennial, USA, have generously donated ₦800,000 to provide 10 (capacity of 5 students per desk) brand-new classroom desks for Development Primary School in Egbelu Nguru. For years, severe furniture shortages forced young pupils to learn while sitting on bare floors or overcrowded, broken benches. This vital intervention directly addresses a critical core infrastructure need, replacing dilapidated seating with sturdy, comfortable desks that restore dignity and focus to the daily learning environment.
₦100,00
Through the collective dedication of our global alumni network, students at Development Primary School have received brand-new school uniforms. Prior to this intervention, many pupils attended classes in worn, mismatched, or inadequate clothing due to economic hardship, which impacted their self-esteem and sense of belonging. This generous contribution ensures that every child steps into the classroom dressed in a neat, standardized uniform, restoring personal pride and instilling a shared sense of identity throughout the student body.
₦500,000+ Books
Driven by international support and dedicated community advocacy led by Terry and Dr. Stewart, Development Primary School has received 17 cartons of essential textbooks and educational materials valued at over ₦500,000. This substantial contribution directly equips pupils and teachers with vital learning resources, bridging the academic gap alongside ongoing physical infrastructure restoration. By providing modern books that foster literacy and subject mastery, Terry and Dr. Stewart continue to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to empowering the children of Egbelu Nguru.
Revived school library
Grounded in the timeless wisdom, "Teach them young how to behave so that when they grow, they will never depart from it," this restored space does more than house books—it cultivates character, discipline, and endless possibilities for our future leaders.
The full restoration of the school library serves as a cornerstone in our strategy to nurture early curiosity and instill a foundational love for learning in Egbelu Nguru. Introducing our pupils to a functional, well-stocked library early in their development sparks lifelong critical thinking, normalizes independent reading, and equips them with the vital tools needed to build a brighter tomorrow.
